Dice Case and Mystic Update

I hope the summer is treating everyone well. It has been oddly cold out here in Colorado. 

The update

We are still in progress and pushing ahead hard. Everything is on track. With this update we have a few things we want to share with you.

Dice Case

The final version of our dice case is ready. I think it looks and fees great. It is a great size without being too bulky. The final changes include: hexagon shape, double zippers, attached carabineer, mesh pocket, foam insert with 16 holes, blue case, silver/black tray, black trim, knitted fabric inside. Check out the photos. It is a bit smaller but still holds a lot of dice.

Meet the Mystic

For those looking to play a more magically driven crew member, here is some background on our hero, Zarylla, the Mystic.  There is no doubt that this character will be popular. And it will offer a flavor that is more akin to our previous fantasy based calendar themes.

Marker Test

It is admittedly odd that we have so much trouble with the markers. In 2021, the dry-erase markers left a smear. In 2022, they wiped off too easily. We aimed this year to find the perfect balance and fix this once and for all. So we did a test.

We gathered various markers to test visibility, dry time, size, erase-ability, and smear. We even tried a different type of laminate for the paper. 

We weren't absolutely the most scientific about this. There were flaws in our experiment, but we have chosen a winner. Some key takeaways.

* The new laminated paper did the best with all the markers. The new hero book will have a gloss finish.

* The finest tip was disqualified because it stopped writing. That tip just wasn't made for this ink.

* The marker tip we chose can write fine if you write gently or thick if you write hard.

* Dry erase did the best overall, but wipes off easily. When flipping back and forth between pages, it will be important to avoid this so as to keep data from being wiped away.

* Two of the wet erase markers did the best and we will be choosing one of these. We agree it can be cumbersome to erase with a cloth, but we believe the overall experience will be better.

* We are considering providing both a wet and dry marker.

Local Pickup

For those nearby that would like to travel to Colorado Springs in Colorado,  we are having a Local Pickup event in November.  You can save on shipping by coming by to pick up your copy, meet the creator, chat about games and Kickstarter, or pick up extra copies.

How do I select Local pickup?

To select this option in your BackerKit survey, you must choose "Local Pickup" from the "Country" drop down list when inputting your address. This can be done on the first page for the survey. Do not select United States as your country, select Local Pickup as your country.

When? While the date is not determined yet. It will be in November. More details will go out later.

Where? We will be having this at Petrie's Family Games.

BackerKit surveys are coming!

Soon (few days to a week), you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. 

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. 

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts. This will be in August.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://2023-quest-calendar.backerkit.com/

We owe a big "Thank you" to everyone that has backed us. It is good to see new and returning players alike. None of this could have happened without you. We are especially grateful for all the players that have been around since the beginning.

What Happens Next?

Well, we have a lot of work to do to finish up this Quest Calendar, and we aren't taking breaks. While we get back to the creative process, here are some things you'll want to know:

Kickstarter Payment Processing

Kickstarter will bill your pledge to the credit card associated to your Kickstarter account. If there are any issues, they will automatically try to resolve them for several days; this process takes care of itself in most cases, but if you have something special that needs to be asked or addressed, you can try to reach their support department if necessary.

The Pledge Manager

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be finalizing and testing the pledge manager.  When this is finished in early April, you'll be sent a survey link from BackerKit. Then, you'll have the option to confirm your pledge, upgrade, add additional copies, provide your shipping address, and take care of shipping.

Missed the Campaign?

You can still place a late pledge Here!

If you pledged, you will still be able to upgrade or add on to your pledge in the pledge manager. New orders placed in the pledge manager will be considered "Late Pledges" and will not receive the free Galaxy Dice (although it may still be added on for an additional charge).
